something lingering at the back of my mind, just out of reach. The feeling is subtle, like the faintest whisper of a forgotten dream, but it’s persistent. It tugs at the edges of my consciousness, urging me to remember something important—something from the past that I can’t quite grasp. I try to shake it off, telling myself that it’s nothing, but the nagging feeling doesn’t go away. I inhale deeply, the scent of Mikhail fills my senses, but even that can’t block the quiet whisper that seems to echo inside me. It’s almost like a memory locked away, too far for me to reach, yet so close.

My chest felt heavy, the weight of memories I thought I had buried now clawing their way to the surface. I hadn’t left my room all day, the soft glow of the afternoon sun peeking through the curtains now beginning to fade as evening settled in. Every time I Closed my eyes, a familiar scent…yet distant, haunted me. It was like he was both there and not there, lingering in my mind as if to remind me of what we once were, of everything we never became. I shook my head, trying to get rid of this image, but it clung to me stubbornly.

Each milestone was a balm, soothing the ache of years lost and opportunities missed. Yet, even in the midst of this contentment, Andy remained haunted by fragments of memory—fleeting flashes of Mayla’s laughter, the brush of her hand against his, the warmth of a shared moment that could not be recaptured. He kept these memories close, private, allowing them to linger like fragile ghosts at the edges of his mind.

"But you’ve barely spoken. You disappear into the walls. The others... they want to be seen. But you vanish." His eyes lifted, meeting mine. "I know when I’m needed. And when I’m not." There was no resentment in his voice. Just fact. Like the quiet was part of his nature. I set my cup down. "Why haven’t I remembered you yet? I’ve felt the others in my blood. Flashes. Heat. Pain. Even their sins. But you... nothing." Miren leaned back, gaze steady. "Some memories don’t come as fire. Some come as echoes. Soft enough that you mistake them for your own."

Her voice rang in my head, the same pitch, desperate and clingy as if a single touch from me was all she needed in order to be whole, the words dripping with that familiar hunger that had once made me weak. “My apples are waiting,” the voice repeated, low and seductive, and I found myself staring at the two luscious and perky brown-nippled tits she had, the memory so vivid it burned behind my eyes, pulling me under like quicksand. I stood at the door, once more transported to one of the memories from hundreds of years ago I couldn't forget. No matter how I tried, no matter how many rituals I had performed in order to rid myself of the memories, they clung to me like chains forged in the pits

But memories have their own cruel way of resurfacing, unbidden and unstoppable. I shut my eyes, and the past floods over me like a wave, dragging me beneath its relentless current. I see it clearly again—Lila’s triumphant expression, her voice ringing dramatically through that crowded hall, every word a dagger piercing my heart. Her revelation had shattered my happiness like fragile glass, scattering shards of humiliation across the floor, slicing deeper with each gasp, each whispered accusation.

She vowed to continue her quest, to find a way to breach the walls that held Lucy's memories captive. And as Lucy gazed at Maddie, her confusion and frustration mingled with a sense of loss. She couldn't comprehend the depth of the connection she had lost, the memories that remained just beyond her grasp. Her mind was a maze, a labyrinth of forgotten experiences, leaving her adrift in a sea of uncertainty.

I allowed my old self to enter as I opened my eyes and focused as she had asked. The room looked like a hologram or multiple streams of memories that were making their way back in my head. Some of the memories were a fraction because the only clear face I could see was Adam. I moved around looking at every emotion in the memories that were flashing before my eyes. I was beginning to remember my brother and the memories were not stopping. I looked at each flash one by one as the pieces were coming into place before I stopped and looked at the one that had triggered me. I walked closer as I focused on the memory once more.
