“Famous in this house only,” Lisa corrected with a wink. “But it’s good. Sit down, both of you. You look like you’ve been through war.”
They sat. The table was set beautifully — candles in the middle, fresh bread, salad, and a big pot of pasta sauce that smelled incredible. For a moment, it almost felt normal. Almost.
Lisa served everyone generously, then sat down and immediately turned her sharp eyes on Ethan.
“So,” she said, pointing her fork at him. “You’re the famous Ethan. The one my niece has been in love with since she was in pigtails. I’ve heard… stories.”
