THE night draw nigh. Queen stirred awake, her body heavy and sluggish, as if she had been trapped in a deep abyss of sleep. Her eyes fluttered open, and she squinted at the dim light filtering through the curtains of her lavish bedroom. The sleek design of her room, a blend of muted grays and golds, greeted her as she groggily reached for her phone on the bedside table. The screen illuminated her face as she tapped it on. Her heart sank and her eyes widened.

“You’re smiling.” “I’m not.” “You are.” He went back to his work, still grinning. Inside, Mom was slicing fruit. She glanced up when I entered, paused just long enough to notice the same thing. “You’re quiet,” she said. “I’m always quiet.” “Not like that, where’s my little Pumpkin “ I asked referring to my sister, she is ten , her name is Valeria but I call her my little Pumpkin. “She’s still sleeping, spent all her time last night playing with those new toys you got her so blame yourself not anyone else”

“Dinner’s here. Mum and Dad came back and left again already. We’ve got the house to ourselves, so I ordered pizza. Now get your lazy ass up.” He chucked the pillow back at me, and it hit me square in the face. “That little—” I grabbed my phone to check the time. 8:30 PM. Still no response from Aiden. Guess I bruised his ego. Good. Mission accomplished. I got up and headed downstairs, dragging my feet. “What kind of pizza did you get?” I asked. “If you got pineapple again, I swear, Arnold, I’ll end you.” “We got chicken,” said a voice that definitely wasn’t Arnold’s.

Gid, I knocked several times—-Ow," he said as he noticed the woman lying on the bed. "Nah, Uncle, I don't even know who she is, believe me," Gideon says, scratching his brow. Sam took a big breath, saying, "Never mind, go fix this and I'll come back to you later." and exited the room. Gideon nodded and looked at the woman. He walked into the bathroom and stared at himself in the mirror, wondering how long he could distract himself from a nightmare he would never forget for the rest of his life. He returned his attention to his body, the scratch on his chest that would never fade.

Its nostrils flared as it took in the scents of the night, its body coiled and ready for action. 'I'm sorry to interrupt you ma but if I heard well, are you saying a man turned into an animal?' She stood frozen, her eyes wide with shock and disbelief. She and her partner struggled to process what they had just heard, their minds grappling with the impossible reality of a man transforming into a wolf. They turned to each other, searching for answers in each other's faces.

Amber was getting ready for bed in one of the guest rooms and thinking about the plans for tomorrow. She knew this could be very dangerous, and they were going in this will be very little information about the Zombies that have now sprung about. She wondered when these poor people were turned to Zombies if they remembered their past or if they were a new slate, over run with the infection that had created them. She felt tired and wanted to lay down. The thought of sleep would be nice. However, the dream that may and most likely would come would make it be a less restful night. She only needed about 6 hours to really feel right with the world, but that was not guaranteed.

Lena was five years old when the nightmares started. Alina woke to her daughter’s screams echoing through the hall. She was moving before consciousness fully returned, Kaden right beside her through the bond. They found Lena sitting up in bed, golden light pulsing from her small hands. Her eyes were open but unfocused, seeing something that wasn’t there. “Lena, wake up,” Alina said, kneeling beside the bed. “Baby, it’s just a dream.” Lena’s eyes focused. The light faded. She threw herself into Alina’s arms, sobbing.

Mom glances over at me with a curious look and then states, "Breakfast will be ready in a minute. I threw some cinnamon rolls in the oven and they still have a minute or two before they are brown." Smiling, I reply, "Oh, that sounds yummy mom. Thanks." Sitting down at the table, I wait patiently as I drink my orange juice. Mom glances over at me again and asks, "Did you have anymore nightmares last night?" "Yes, I don't know what is going on. Ever since Billie gave me Charlie, I have been having this same bad dream over and over. It is so real that I peed the bed, I'm sorry."

-I'll fight my fears, Jay, I'll do it for you -I walked over and sat to the side across from him- I promise you my monsters won't defeat me. I realized that what he said was true, I had died in my sleep, one of my fears was to sleep and be trapped in one of my nightmares, not knowing what was real or not. This thing I was living was like a very bad nightmare. And there were monsters lurking: Death, damned souls, and God knows what else I'd be about to discover. But Papa went pale when he saw it. Mama burned sage in every room. She didn’t stop until Liliana fell asleep coughing from the smoke. Even the younger pups in the pack—kids my age and under—started having nightmares. I heard them whispering during training. About things scratching under their beds. Whispers that said their names. One kid tried to draw a sigil he saw in his dream. He carved it into a tree near the mess hall. The bark bled. They had to burn the tree.
