Evelyn had barely a second to react before the door pushed inward slowly, a sliver of hallway light cutting into the darkness of their room.

The idea danced in my mind, though I couldn’t quite bring myself to confirm it. Riley had a habit for pressing every button I had, and right now, it was taking everything in me not to toss him over my shoulder and lock him in his room like a misbehaving child. When we reached his door, I fished the keycard from his pocket, trying to ignore how warm his body felt against mine. I was annoyed—furious, even—but I wasn’t about to let him ruin the night any further by causing a scene. As the lock beeped and the door swung open, Riley groaned.

More like a cheap motel owned by someone who never learned to count. Katy walks down the hallway, inspecting each one and looking for something in particular. That psycho planned this! “No, no, no!” I frantically yanked and kicked at the door, sweat pouring down my face. “We have to get out—dammit, move!”

I yelled, running to the door. I grabbed the door handle. The door was locked. “Ryder! Get over here!” I growled. He spun the dickhead around and served him a blow that efficiently knocked him out. Then he darted toward me just as I started kicking the door, trying to break the lock. It took us more than a minute of kicks and attempts to ram the door for the locks to give in. “Josie!” I barged inside and instantly froze as I saw my girl and Riley, both lying motionless in the puddle of blood. My heart stopped.
