“Who is this really?”
“It’s me, Camilia. I’m alive. I’m well. I’m in Italy,” I replied, my voice steady despite the tears forming in my eyes.
There was a pause. Then her voice came, sharp and defensive. “Now you listen to me! If you’re playing games and pretending to be someone else, you’ll wish it was really them lying in the grave!”
My heart melted at her words. I smiled through my tears. “Camilia, it’s really me. I survived that accident. A kind stranger saved me, and when the world thought I was dead, I left to rebuild my life away from everything that hurt me.”
