After searching for a while, my gaze catches a book leather bounds with a cryptic title, ‘The Supernatural. I pause, blinking. That's it. Nothing else. No clue about it's content. I stand on my tip toe, trying to reach for it but my height doesn't favour me. My gaze sweeps across , trying to find a stool but nothing is in sight. And I can't find Leo, we parted ways so we could find the books faster. Now, I'm beginning to regret agreeing to it. I suck in a sharp breath and try to reach for it. My fingers merely grazes the spine.

I clarified. "Wait—what are you trying to say?" I didn't know how to put it in a way that does not offend her, hence I just stayed quiet about it and just described to her what the specific contents of the book may entail. Thankfully, she obliged without a word. After relentless scouring and searching, we eventually stumbled upon one that met my criteria. It was a journal—a journal authored by a former warrior of the Great Rift. "Are you sure this is what you're looking for? Not a textbook?"

After he was done speaking, the healer left the scene, while the rest simply stared at me; a sign that they want me gone. Leaving the pack, I knew only one place the book can be found and it's in my city. The mystical store usually preserve all of this books and I knew it was the best place possible to get it. It was a Herculean task holding Lillith and not getting stressed out. The dashing hopes I had to get her back, fueled my motivation. Arriving back at the city, there wasn't a lot of people on the street and the few that walked past me, believed I was a psychopath. I could hear the whispers,but I could careless about any of it.

As if the land itself recoiled from where we were going. By nightfall, we made camp beneath a dying sky. The fires burned low and strange, their flames dancing sluggishly. When Xareth stepped out to speak with the soldiers or perhaps to inspect dinner, I saw my chance. Heart pounding, I searched the carriage, quiet, quick. Every corner, under the seats, behind the compartments. I was looking for the Living Book. But it wasn’t there. He must have hidden it. Or… maybe he’d left it behind at the castle, locked away in some infernal vault.

I was almost done flipping through it, and yet it wasn't there. I was disappointed when I got to the last page and still couldn't find it. But I was sure Austin found it that day. And I saw it too. I searched for the picture of the mark on my phone and placed the phone next to the book and began the search over again. When I got to each page, I made sure to check it well with the picture on my phone. I got to the last page of the book, and it was still the same news. The drawing isn't there.

I said. I started skimming through the book trying to find some sort of clue and then I started looking on the internet again. I was looking for anything that might have our family crest on it, but I wasn’t having a whole lot of luck. Not even a picture of the castle in the book. I mean, it showed the crest. But I was hoping for a picture of the castle. Even if it didn’t say where it was located. Connor finally took the book off of me and the laptop and I looked at him strangely.

I watched his jaw clench as he read, his hands trembling not with fear, but rage. “She’s trying to unsettle you,” he growled. “Classic distraction. Camden wants you paranoid. Isolate you.” “But what if it’s not a lie?” I whispered. “What if I am… something else?” He looked at me, and for the first time, I saw uncertainty in his eyes. “I found a book,” I said, voice shaking. “In your library. It mentioned something someone called the Hollow-Blooded Mate. I thought it was nonsense. A myth. But it described me. Perfectly.”

My eyes peered at this one book, it was a storybook about the dreamscape, and as I scanned through the introduction…there were walkers on it. Excitedly, I went out of the restricted area before bringing the book to my post. Luckily, no one noticed my disappearance. To be continued…
