My fingers were starting to cramp from turning the pages so fast. Aiden stood near the door on a lookout in case anyone was coming. I could tell he was tense too, his jaw was clenched, and his shoulders were squared. Still, I could feel the heat between us from before, lingering in the air. “This is useless,” I muttered, my voice tight with frustration. “There’s nothing in here.” I was about to snap the book shut until something caught my eye. I let myself into the room and went straight to the drawers where I saw the book the last time I was there. Luckily, it was still there. I raised it up to the light and looked at the cover. I didn’t have enough time to look through it to find what I was searching for, but from the cover, which was a picture of what seemed to be someone between two worlds with a woman with hair as white as the moon itself opening her hands and facing it towards the person, a part of me just knew that it was what I was looking for.

After a few minutes of searching, I saw a small black book shoved between the two larger ones. It almost looked hidden. I took it out and read the title.

Maybe the writer had in mind to deviate the readers’ thoughts about the book at first glance. I lazily stretched my hand to pick the book, finally recalling, when I opened the first page, that it was literally the book I had been searching for. I looked around to find that it was kept on the table nearby. I picked it up and turned the pages looking for the picture but I couldn’t find it. But, I had seen it last night. It couldn’t have been my imagination, could it? When I couldn’t find the pictures even after searching for the third time, I started inspecting the book closely. I found that the page was torn. I was about to run down with the book when the table caught my attention. I gasped taking in its condition. It had a large gaping hole in between. A few drops of blood were scattered on the table and the floor.

Maybe the book isn't for me, I walk back with this thought but to my great amazement, I see the book on the shelf where I can easily get it.
