Lucian glanced at the books in his hands before offering a small apologetic smile. "I still have several reports to finish tonight."

Instead, he turned to the aged moonlight wine and poured himself a long swig before throwing his shoulders back and staring at the fireplace like it owed him answers to his dilemma. Lucien, as usual, took a more calm approach, even when the ground beneath our feet was being slid right off. But you could tell that he was troubled in his own way. He poured out two modest glasses of the Proseco - a sparkling white wine - and handed me one. Raising his glass, he continued. "I'd say smart. He gave one of the glasses to Sienna and took the other.

"But we also drink the most expensive wines and eat the most expensive shit. If I must confess, vampires are very classy." The person that had been eyeing them for about ten minutes now approached them. "If it isn't Vee's trouble beloved..." The man smirked. "And who are you?" Benji raised his eyebrow in question. "I'm Lucian. Rose wine?" The man raised a light pink glistening drink in a transparent glass cup at Benji. Vincent grabbed the cup and sniffed it before handing it to Benji. "Really VeeVee?" Lucian smirked. "Stop calling me that," Vincent sneered but Benji could detect the lingering playful tone before he turned to the male beside him.

They didn’t care if they won or lost millions of dollars, if money wasn’t to buy a moment of happiness, they didn’t know for what it was invented. Red wine, an elegant and sensual dress that turned Lucian’s world upside down, her addictive perfume, her smile, the softness of her laugh combined with the softness of her skin, even that mischievous smile she conquered Lucian’s heart with, the man wasn’t going to resist the urge to make her belong to him.

They made their way to the kitchen and Lorian made quick work of a charcuterie board that had a variety of meats, cheeses, and fruits. Lucian held up a bottle of wine for approval. Zalindra stated “Each?” Lucian smiled big and grabbed two more bottles from the wine cooler. He was about to close the door of the cooler when he stopped and grabbed a fourth bottle. “For Layla.” Zalindra smiled warmly at him and she could have sworn she saw a faint blush on his cheeks before he straightened his face. “Let’s sit in the library so we will be near the door when Layla gets here.” Lorian said as he led the way in that direction.

I walked in and started toward the stairs like something had been emptied out of me, completely failing to register that Lucian was sitting in the middle of the living room. My foot had just hit the first step when he spoke. "Come here." I turned. Those ice-cold eyes were fixed on me. My heart slammed once, hard. I walked over slowly. I stopped at the usual distance, the way I always did. He set down his whiskey. When he spoke, there was something dangerous in it. "Have a good time? Didn't know you had a taste for the finer things — a 1945 Romanée-Conti?" I stared at him. I had no idea what he was talking about.

She followed me and leaned her frame against the island. “It’s almost ten, Lucien... why am I here?” The question came out tired. I uncorked the wine I’d taken from Cassian’s cellar and poured the dark red slowly into two glasses, the liquid catching the light like slow blood. I passed one to her. “Taste it.” She hesitated before accepting it. One small sip— then a soft cough. “Fuck.” She hissed, eyes squeezing shut for a moment. “It’s strong.” “Old.” I corrected. “It’s the oldest wine from the Laurent’s reserve. Most people don’t know how to drink it.” I said calmly, taking the glass from her before she could protest.
