The Blood Moon Ascendance
"So hush now, close your eyes tight,
Drift away into the night.
Let the moon and stars above,
Wrap you in their tender love.
Sleep now, dear one, safe and sound,
In the peace that night has found.
Dream of flowers, stars, and skies,
As into slumber, softly you glide."
As the final notes of her lullaby faded into the stillness of the night, I felt myself slipping further into slumber, the cares of the world falling away as I surrendered myself to the gentle embrace of sleep.
"Where did you learn that?" I asked, my tongue heavy with sleep. "Sounds fancy. I think I have heard it before."
"Most likely. Your mother made it up," Mabel whispered to me. "Just for you."
