Kael looked toward Mira, who stood at the edge of the camp studying the sky. “Do you trust her?” he asked. Luna followed his gaze. “I don’t know yet.” “She just appeared out of nowhere.” Kael nodded. “Exactly.” Before Luna could respond, Mira walked toward them. Her silver hair moved gently in the wind, and the glowing symbols on her arms shimmered faintly. “You’re worried,” she said softly. Luna raised an eyebrow. “You can read minds too?” Mira shook her head. “No. But I can read the moons.”

The scent of rich perfume floated before her like a warning. Then I saw her. The Luna. Or rather, the one who had been chosen to become Luna. Mirah. She was tall and graceful, with long dark curls cascading down her back like a glossy silk curtain. Her lips were full and tinted rose, her lashes thick, and her eyes cold, dark, and alert.

Tink. Her smile didn’t move. Howell’s gaze swept. “A Luna to be of the Black River Pack, Mira of the North, do you accept as an opponent?” Mira’s smile was winter sun—bright, brittle. “Gladly.” Talia felt Lucian go still, every muscle wanting to stand between them. Mira leaned closer, honeyed poison. She crossed her legs slowly, deliberately. Her heel tapped once on stone — a slow, elegant threat. "You know," she paused for effect. "I could have had Lucian or Casius. Or both. "

Mira muffled in a weak voice, still lost in her daze. Slowly, I pulled out a ring from my pocket, my other hand squeezed her hand tighter, keeping my eyes locked on hers. “Mira, will you become my Luna?”

Kian looked back at her, eyes dark and uncertain. “What does that mean?”

“In that case, shouldn’t you be around Apollo to stake your claim rather than leaving him with the daughter of an Alpha?” She stopped brushing her nails and glared at me. “I don’t care who he gets introduced to. Ultimately, I will be his Luna. Reason?” She leaned towards my ear and whispered, “Because Luna Mira likes me a lot. She has chosen me. So, whoever comes in my way, will be thrown out like a fly.” I stiffened. “So, the Luna is with you on this task?” She took a step back and giggled. “You can think whatever you like, but after today, you will be forgotten!” She started circling me again, like a predator.

Not from fear—but fury. Her maid, Lysa, stood discreetly to the side, holding her phone high—already recording. Already live. “Start streaming,” Mira muttered. Lysa gave a small nod and did as told. A red LIVE icon blinked in the corner of the screen, broadcasting Mira’s words across the pack’s social channels, across allied territories, and—most importantly—to Zarek and Selene, wherever they were. Mira raised her chin and cleared her throat. “You all know me,” she began, voice steady. “I’ve stood at Lucien’s side for years. As his Luna. As his partner. As the woman he chose.”

“If your step-mother finds out about this—“ “This is none of her business.” “Like hell it is!” I shot back. “How on earth will you explain this to the Pack? That you’ve chosen a nobody, a wolf less woman, to be the next Luna? Is this some sort of joke?!” “I would never joke about something so serious, Mira.” he turned his head so quickly I wondered if he strained the thick muscles of his neck. His eyes flickered with emotion as they met mine. “I have chosen you to be my Luna, because I want you to be. This match is advantageous for both of us.”

And the clearing was now not even merely silent, it became almost unbearably still, so that one could almost suffocate in it. "What do you want, Mira?" Kade asked, stepping forward but keeping the blade drawn. Mira's silver eyes gleamed with that statement. "I want Luna to fulfill her purpose, to embrace the power the moon has given her, and to choose." “Choose what?” Luna’s voice cracked, her heart racing. Mira’s smirk turned deadly. “Who she’s willing to lose.” The words landed like a punch to the gut. Luna gasped, doubling over as she staggered back. "I can't..."

MADDOX I laid there and watched my mate sleep. I dared not move in case I woke her. I'm surprised it took her as long as it did to break down. I had known it was coming, no one could have gone through what she had the last few days and not have cracked. I was beginning to understand why the Moon Goddess had paired me with her. Her undeniable reliance and strength, outshone my own. She would be the perfect Luna for the White Claw pack, and probably far more than what I deserved in a mate.
