Malachi, eyes scanning the horizon, suddenly pointed, "There, in the distance! A shadow, out of place amidst this luminescence." The guardians followed his gaze, and indeed, a dark form seemed to be approaching, its energy clashing with the radiant vibes of the grove. Isolde, her instincts kicking in, said, "We need to intercept, and understand its intentions." Liora, holding out her hand, produced a gentle orb of light. "Let's use this to guide the shadow, lure it closer." The shadow, drawn to Liora's orb, began to take a more defined shape as it neared — a cloaked figure, its face hidden, emanating an aura of chaos and disruption.

I look up at him. “What was that?” I ask, and he smiles at me, the fire around his irises melting away. “Shadow fire.” He answers softly, then closes his eyes once again. “I’ve never seen it before,” my tone matches his. “Have you always been able to do that?” “No, it’s a recent development, and by recent, I mean three years. I’m trying to get a hang of it, but I haven’t been able to control it. I control shadows, manipulate them as I please. Everything that is a shadow is mine, but shadow fire is difficult to wield, and it’s taking far longer to control, even longer than controlling souls; people.”

The baton connected with the back of my neck, hard and final. Pain exploded through me, fast and blinding. My body gave in instantly, strength draining out like it was never mine to begin with. (Ethan’s POV) It is almost sunset, and the hotel’s roof garden was one of the most incredible spots of the Grand Lake Hotel. You can already see from here the beauty of Springville Town. The ally’s eyes swept the forest like instruments, never resting. Suddenly, the mist shifted unnaturally. Shadows surged forth, moving faster than perception could track, striking with terrifying precision. Adrian’s sword flashed, cleaving one attacker in two, while another lunged from the side. Elena loosed two arrows in rapid succession, both finding their marks midair. Marcus intercepted a flanking attack, knives dancing in lethal arcs. The ally neutralized two shadows silently, their movements ghostlike.

' Umbra's voice rang through my head. 'He didn't have to be a d*ck about it.' 'I agree with Zerena.' Shade added. I think Shade just doesn't want to be on Umbra's side. I don't feel like Shade is all that enthused about Umbra joining us. I think that's odd though cause wouldn't Umbra be like some kind of god to shadows if it's the original shadow? 'Not a god, just the first shadow to be able to contract with humans. We learned how to do it from Umbra. That's all!' Shade explained, obviously hearing my thoughts.

Peering over Liam’s shoulder, I spot two shadows, their tall frames standing at nearly seven feet towering over a she-wolf whose body sported deep, bleeding gashes. The Shadow with long flowing black hair and crimson eyes sneers, licking the blood of the she-wolf from his claws with a forked tongue. “Who would have thought Ottawa would be easy to enter once all the snow began to melt?” His companion chuckles out, his voice distorted with a gurgling.
