Madeline looked at Ryan’s back that was facing her and turned around decisively. Madeline shot off like a eagle, running around the field, the field was meters long to run back and forth fifty times was impossible. Maddy's POV Two days later, there was still no retaliation from the Outlaws. The town was preparing for the upcoming cancer half-marathon. Every morning on our way to school, we saw town workers cleaning up and clearing the path for the runners. The roads were painted with markers to guide the runners. There was a festive ambiance in the air as Pine Creekers prepared for the race. “Maybe, your talk with Max went better than you thought,” Giselle said to me on the third day.

She rolled her eyes and sighed, before leaving her behind and carrying on. Maddie picked up the pace to her usual stride. It had been a long time since she had run on the island and, Goddess, she had missed it. With each lap, she watched the sun brush over the sea to the east, slowly rising above the distant mainland, while, to the west, she watched the night recede. The mix of the steep land and beach burned her calves and hamstrings, taunting her of the ease of Red Dawn's flatlands that she had become accustomed to.
