Just like how there are records about the night market in the first five books, there are also records about mages as well. Being a mage is a noble occupation, much more noble than merchants. In order to become a mage, one should have a lot of resources like herbs. The farther one goes towards the step of becoming a mage, the higher the resources they need. It was extremely costly that some people who have decided to walk the path of becoming a mage, especially those from common families, decided to give up due to the lack of resources.
