H U N T E R J O N E S I was reading the second Harry Potter book while leaning against the wall in the alley with Ty on my side. I knew Mey had asked me to read the Goblet of Fire to figure out the three unforgivable curses, but after picking the book randomly, I felt that I owed it to the author to read it from the first book. So I had picked up Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone from the library yesterday, finished the book in seven hours, and had it returned this morning. When I had returned the first one, I immediately borrowed the second one: Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets which was the book I was reading right now.

“I’m still trying to think up a story to tell the wolves.” “Yeah,” Ben said. “The truth will probably piss them off.” Remembering that the castle was cloaked by magic, Jasper asked, “You don’t happen to know a cloaking spell. Do you?” Ben’s eyes twinkled as his mouth formed a broad smile. **** “If our scientist does not return soon, we will have to send a search party out for him,” Freya sneered as she climbed out of bed. Pulling a silk robe over her nakedness, she turned to Marcus and asked, “Did you check the warlock’s cave?”

I asked. “Kill your teacher. Destroy the woman I loved and lost to darkness. End Morgana before she ends the world.” Mara’s voice broke. “I have been searching for someone strong enough for two centuries. Someone who could face her and win. I think you might be that someone. But only if you survive the next three weeks.” She pulled out a small book bound in dark leather. “This contains everything I know about her magic. Her weaknesses. Her techniques. Study it. Learn it. Become the counter to everything she is.”

“And if I stand.” Burdock’s voice dropped. “Then anyone watching learns you’re not exposed.” Her breath went shallow, but she didn’t step back. “Torin’s leaving.” “Yes.” “And none of you can watch me because you’re going with him.” Burdock looked at me. “That’s why you’ve got Rook.” The weight settled. I didn’t move. “I don’t want a leash,” Marlowe said quietly. “Then don’t act like you need one,” Burdock replied. “We’re not here to control you. We’re here to keep you breathing.”

Scaled the watchtower ladder in three massive leaps. I reached the top and looked out over the valley’s narrow entrance. My breath stopped. Thousands of torches lit the horizon like a sea of fallen stars. The army stretched back as far as I could see. A wall of fur, steel, and fire. Our three hundred looked like ants. And there — at the front of the golden-clad army, mounted on a coal-black stallion beside Alpha Richard — stood Mara. No longer hunched. No longer frail. She stood tall in robes of silver and black, her white hair whipping in the coming storm. She looked up at the watchtower. Caught my gaze across the distance.

She was a very strong woman and had seen so much in her life. “Meredith… tell me what happened… are you alright…” I asked repeatedly but got no response. I hated to do this but I was left with no option. I lifted her chin gently and said looking into her eyes, “I command you to tell me what happened.” Her eyes glazed over and she started speaking in a mechanical voice, “The Dark Lord paid a visit. He has cast a spell on all the wolves in the pack except me. If you don’t meet him within twenty-four hours, all of them will be dead.” She dropped on her knees and started sobbing again.

Aldrich's POV I had been busy with trying to finalise the acquisition of the bar where I met Mara yesternight when my wolf started becoming restless and even my chest twisted painfully. I had disregarded it as nothing, until my wolf echoed that Mara was in danger. I didn't waste time. Me and my BlueMoon Reapers MC rode here on our power bikes and here we are, standing in front of the modest mansion that Evander told me belonged to the Hartwells.

I turn to the other captives, performing the spell on each of the cages until they're all free. We stand there, an amalgamation of Hawthorn students and staff, and me--a witch way in over her head. "Great job." One of the teachers--whose name I never caught--claps me on the back. "Let's get out of here," I say. There's shouting out in the hall, followed by the unmistakable sound of a fight. "Er, let's use the windows," Charlie suggests. But I'm cocking my head and walking for the door. Sounds like the Silver Hunters are going head to head with an enemy.

I started to walk away, but she said, “By yourself?” I stopped and turned back to look at her. “No, not by myself, Mage Jaye. With my pack. And with anyone else we can find who is brave enough to take these bastards on knowing what they’ve done.” “Brave enough?” Mage Jaye came flying after me and grabbed me by the arm spinning me around. “They destroyed the school, Harlow! They burned it to the ground! They killed three staff members and four students! Don’t tell me I don’t understand what’s happening or I’m not brave enough, Harlow! I’m trying to keep other people from getting killed!”

I look at my companions, and we all share a moment of relief. Davis pads over to me, his fur coated in blood. "Are you okay?" he asks, concern etched on his face. I nod, still in shock from the fight. "We need to move," I say, gesturing to the bodies. The four of us drag the hunters' bodies into the woods, my side screaming in pain the whole time. "I got it." Marybelle says, raising her wand and casting two spells—the first to make the bodies rapidly decompose, and the second to wipe the memories of any neighbors who just saw what happened.
