“You have a lot to think about, Lia so I’m not mad at you or anything.” Simone was seriously the best friend anyone could ever have. How did I get so lucky with her? I smiled weakly, linking my arm to hers. “Thanks for saying that, Simone. I just wish I could snap my fingers and everything would be all right.” “You need to just take your time with this. There are going to be five people in this mating group. Five personalities butting heads so it’s going to be a lot.” I paled. “But they are friends and haven’t fought with each other.”

Marinette scrunches her nose and then nods and says, “Okay, thanks. Could you bring me Marigold?” The woman grabs the baby out of its bassinet, and I realize that’s where the blueberry scent is coming from. Marinette smiles as she holds the baby in her arms and the woman dismisses herself. Marinette glances at me and says, “So… Chase Croft.” The way she says my name makes butterflies erupt in my stomach. She looks me up and down and says, “That name sounds familiar, have I met you before?”

Rick O'Callahaun was another good friend of hers she'd grown up with, and his folks vacationed with the Memmers and Quinns. Needless to say, we'd been a happy bunch. The best of summertime friends. Marin adjusts herself as she sees me walking towards their direction, as if I had not seen how clingy she was with Eric. I know Eric will make a good boyfriend for her, but he was already in a relationship with Sophie, Wes’s sister. “Hiii…” she says, a wide and uncomfortable smile fills the air. “What are you doing here?” I completely ignore Eric and turn to Marin. I'm sure she must think I'm so pissed at her because I had warned her not to have anything to do with Eric. Sophie is really crazy and would go to any lengths to keep Eric as her dog. “I'm just, you know…” She looks away from me and shakes Eric, “Let's just talk some other time. See you around.”

Marinette sounds sad as she says, “Just go, Lauren. As you can see, I have important company. Just tell Chase that I’m safe and I don’t plan on leaving again today.” Lauren sighs in response and says, “It was nice to meet you, Princess Lux.” I nod in response before the door closes. Marinette breathes out and I can feel her eyes on me as she says, “Okay, it’s official, I like you.”

Marina smiled brightly and looked into the distance as if she was reminiscing. Many of the merfolk were puzzled, wondering what she was saying. “What's going on? Tell me more about your new friends.” The chief was agitated, shocked to hear that his daughter made friends. It was not a good thing. They had always protected Marina strictly and never allowed her to step out of the line. Marina was raised like a noble little princess, and they knew every friend she made. Everyone felt uncomfortable when they heard that Marina had made a friend who could help them.

’ Mariane clicks her tongue and sips her soju. From afar, Kimberly Chua, Mariane’s best friend, passed by the convenience store and noticed her.
