Tessa lifted her gaze to the man standing before her, and her chest tightened until it felt like her ribs might shatter. Just the sight of him was enough to break her all over again. Her vision blurred as tears welled, heavy with the memories of everything she had sacrificed for this man who never once chose her. Her throat tightened, but she forced the tears back, blinking them away before they could fall. Enough. She had cried enough for him. Now, her face hardened, settling into the mask she had learned to wear, one that gave nothing away.

He smiles warmly at me “ I’m sure you had your reason for that, whatever it is” Tears threaten to spill from my eyes. I lift up my eyes, fanning my eyes with my hands , willing the tears to stay away but I fail. One lone tear escapes and before I know it, I am bawling in my father’s arms. I don’t care” Amanda said in her low voice while removing her mask. “But you must remember this face, young master Mills” she revealed her red face with full of tears. “Because this is the face that would despise you forever” she said with gritted teeth.

“Don’t worry. Your Highness hasn’t come in here yet. And I brought you another mask.. one from your room.” She held it out. My favorite. The cream one, with gold lining along the edges. I took it from her slowly, tracing the soft material with trembling fingers. “Why… why’d you bring this one?” I whispered. “What if it gets ruined by my face…” My throat closed up as I blinked rapidly, trying to fight the tears burning behind my eyes. Ivana didn’t speak. Thank God Xavier hasn’t seen me like this. It's not the right time. “But… but,” Lauren hesitated, eyeing the mask in my hand, “is it okay to wear it now? Won’t it hurt your skin?”
