The mask settled against her face, the crystal edges fitting to her bone as if grown there. She looked in the mirror. Her silver hair against the deep purple, her violet eyes glowing with the Moon Seal's light, the torn veil floating above her head like a broken halo. Not a queen. Not an angel. Something older. Something that had walked through death and sewn a gown from its own refusal to break. She checked the clock. Half-hour past eight.
