Elias ignored it. The giant man remained on his feet. "What kind of children?" Michael hesitated. Then answered. "The first compatibility generation." The room froze. Elias closed his eyes. Like he already knew. Daniel noticed. "You've heard of them." Elias looked toward him. His expression carried old pain. The kind that never truly healed. "Yes." Silence followed. Then Elias spoke. "The first synchronization war wasn't fought between soldiers." Nobody moved. "The first victims were children." The room became deathly quiet.

Aaron immediately regretted it, because Phantom always knew when people lied. The silence stretched. Then— “You have thirty seconds.” Aaron cursed. His hands shook harder. “You don’t understand what they’re building.” “Twenty-five.” “It’s bigger than Silverfang.” “Twenty.” “It’s bigger than territory.” “Fifteen.” “They’re preparing for war.” Silence. Then: “Against who?” Aaron’s heartbeat thundered. Against everyone, against every pack, against every government, and against anyone standing in their way. My blood ran cold, but before I could say anything, Arik interjected with, “They left the facility at the same time as you, and if they’d been in touch with the other faction, wouldn’t they know better than to come here—” Nate cut him off in turn, and they were all yelling and arguing within seconds, except for Calder, who didn’t yell but argued with the best of them, and Matthew, who sat back silently, pinching the bridge of his nose.
