Vanessa paled. The monster she thought she controlled… had turned toward her. And he wasn’t playing anymore. As Lucien walked away from the grave, his phone buzzed in his pocket. A message. No name. Just a video attachment. He opened it. His blood iced. Zara. In the woods. Sleeping against a tree. Adrian keeping watch. And the camera filming them… was close. Too close. Lucien’s throat locked. Then the message appeared beneath the video:

A sinking feeling began to collect in my stomach. He can’t be him, right? My mate can’t be him. I lifted my lashes to his neck. My face paled, panic set in. He was wearing a chain with a hideous claw. Oh god…Oh god…. Realisation was cruel. I am mated to a monster. I am mated to a cold blooded murderer. I didn’t want a heartlesskiller for a mate no matter how devilishly handsome he is. I was sweating now. How could the moon Goddess do this to me? I was scared. Shit scared.

His most trusted men had turned against him and he hadn't seen it coming; he should have known but his attention had been stolen by another matter altogether. Zarek had dreamed of his mate. He had made a connection with her and knew she was near his territory. Dragons could feel their life mate when he/she came near them and had vivid dreams of that person.
