She asked loudly, waiting for him specifically to answer. War sighed, hating how all of this was turning out. His wolf just wanted to grab their mate and go but unfortunately, it was just not that easy. Not to mention she was upset. I spoke as soon as I closed the door to our room and found him already inside. "It is. Sit." Theo replied shortly. And determination in his eyes silenced me from complaining more. "You scare me." I looked him straight in his eyes. "What is it, Theo?" I couldn't hide my worry anymore. I knew him very well, and this side of him only appeared when bad things happened. "I was in discussion with Hari and others about the rogue in Night Howl Pack." He said, pausing to see me acknowledge the information with a nod. Only then did he go on with shocking news. "Matthew talked about the probability that they used magic and a witch."

"She didn't say. But Lara looked really freaked out when I asked." Luke, who had been quietly watching this exchange unfold, finally spoke up. His voice was calm, measured, but carried a sharp edge. "Hold on a second—who even is this Lara?" Mateo blinked, surprised by the question as if it had never occurred to him someone might not know. "Lara Harper. Her mom's a chemist or something like that." Adrian almost choked on his drink, eyes widening in disbelief. "You've got to be kidding me." I frowned, confused by his reaction. "What? Why?"

The two of us deliberately let Mattheo get to the fifth floor first to meet Angel. Before Mattheo called the girl, Luke stepped in as the main character. The conversation we had arranged would make Mattheo feel depressed. And here, my role would triumph. When Mattheo is devastated by his wife, I will come as the god of help who reaches out to him. I'll make him fall into a mud pit, let him drown, and then rescue him. Even the craziest of men would not hold back tears, at the helping hand in the deepest hole he'd fallen into.

I knew, without being told, that I was looking at one of them. A Matron. “Come closer, blood of my blood,” she said, her voice a haunting melody that seemed to echo in every corner of the clearing.
