“I’m sorry to hear about your dad, kid. I really hope he makes it.”
“Thanks.” She didn’t know what else to say.
“Where’s your mother? She wasn’t part of the accident, was she?”
“No, she’s just… preoccupied.”
Russo’s gaze turned scrutinous on her face. “So who’s taking care of business then?”
“You mean the laundering? No one.”
Russo blinked twice at her. Then, as if her answer finally registered in his head, he took out a cigarette from his inner coat pocket.
“I hear your father’s in a coma, so you relaying my words to him probably won’t do much,” he said, lighting his cigarette. “But until someone starts moving some money around again, you guys are gonna be in worse trouble.”
