It could lead to nothing good for me I finished making my first cup of coffee and went back to the bedroom to put my shirt on. I wandered to the guest bedroom to see if I could find a book that would keep my interest. I grabbed a mystery that had a cool story line, but on my way back to the living room I noticed a door. I mean I had seen it before but never wondered what it led to. Now I had time and I didn't hesitate. I turned the knob and felt around for a light switch as I stepped beyond the threshold.

Meru smiled as if he won the battle between him and the Medjay even though the latter was able to get up from his beating. Mazoi hit the insects one by one with the butt of his spear. He crushed each one of them as they got closer and closer to him. He had no choice. He twirled his spear in front of Meru. His intention was to gather the insects this time, not the sands.

His blood hits the floor and sinks; the Maze drinks it greedily. He glances at me. “It needs blood freely given.” “I can help.” “No.” He’s firm, low. “One of us bleeds. Not both.” But the Maze doesn’t stay satisfied for long. By the next chamber, the heartbeat quickens, louder, impatient. The walls pulse tighter, forcing us single-file through a tunnel barely wide enough to breathe. The floor squelches with each step. Renna vomits. The sound echoes wetly. I gag, forcing it down. “Keep moving.”

Deep throbbing pulsed across my head and I couldn’t tell whether it began or ended at the back of my head but it was refusing to relent. I closed my eyes again, hoping the next time I opened them I could get a clearer focus. Gradually my vision sharpened. Surrounding me were shelves and tables covered in an array of large boxes and wrapped packages. They sat to the left of me, obscuring the majority of my position from whatever was rumbling on the other side. When I squinted harder, my eyes fell to a blurred lump on the floor. I held on to my breath as I realised what it was.

Phobos pipes in telling me of his doubts about my accomplishment of his exercise. Grinding my teeth I claw on it and adding pressure to it has a piece pop up from the page. I startle dropping the book to the grass floor, caught off guard. Peering in I see fur peeking from underneath the piece. Time is running out. Taking a small breath I slowly tear the piece from the book. It comes off easily as if it was meant to whilst uncovering a small picture of four baby wild hares sleeping in a basket. There weren't merely four hares but eight.

At least there are some people who are not bothered by my existence. Rory ran over to me. “Adrian is a dumbass. I will get him straight. I heard you are mates, though. Which means we are officially sisters!” I smiled indulgently at Rory. “Yeah, I guess that means we are sisters.” We hugged, then I gave Jonah a hug, followed by hugs for Austin and Rebel. “So, when are you moving to the beta floor?” Rebel asked. I was caught off guard by that question. “Um, I haven’t been asked, Mom.”

The small, golden bridge went up in an arch and came down the other side. She ran across it, and underneath her, she saw the crystal clear water, glowing blue. She crossed the bridge, about to enter the city, and her father appeared again, at the entrance to the city gates. He stood just on the other side, and as she ran for him, there suddenly appeared two immense doors, freestanding, in the middle of the street, blocking her way.

They want to hunt, their prize me. The tunnel comes to an end faster than I remember and just as planned, Caden and I break off from each other. I head into the direction of the center of the forest where the traps we will use to our advantage awaits. I can hear them behind me, their undeniable scent of mud and grass the marking of a Rager.
