A feeling of dread came over him when he remembered the last time he tried sneaking out. Was it worth it? To the best of his knowledge, Xander wouldn't bat an eyelash if he was caught. Dante held the file tightly and returned to the barn. Then he heard it. "No… no…no, please. This cannot be happening to me now…." He muttered, pleadingly, but the strange melody began to get louder. Dante didn't even realize when he dropped the file, all he wanted to do was shut the strange song out of his head.

** Poppy’s POV ** I don’t remember falling asleep. One second, I’m wrapped in Leo’s arms, warm and steady, the bond humming softly between us like a quiet reassurance, and the next, I’m cold. The shift is instant and violent. The warmth is gone, ripped away so suddenly it steals the breath from my lungs. My eyes snap open, but I’m not in the cabin anymore. I’m standing in the middle of a road. It’s dark, unnaturally dark. There are no trees, no warm cabin, no protective Leo. Just empty tarmac stretching endlessly in both directions, glistening as if it has been raining.

I didn’t get into college, so I took a job driving a city bus. Once I finished training, I started working the night shift with Uncle Tim. He had always been the kind of guy who followed every rule. But that night, he wouldn’t let me pick up a single passenger. He even made me keep the bus dark the entire route. Uncle Tim died shortly after that incident. It had continued snowing as the little town was now covered with snow, making it look like a ghost town as the little town's men and women had retired to bed early. Hearing the cracking of the wood again, she stood up and made her way to the fireplace. Her room was barely large enough to hold the necessary items she needed, and her small bed, stove, and some kitchen utensils were all neatly placed at one end. Putting one more log of wood in the fireplace, she sat down on her small plinth, placing her palm near the fire. She feared if she ever went back to bed, she would have more nightmares, and probably end up with more wounds.

And I walk to the door but before I open it I dim the light to set the mood more sensually. "Password?" I ask, sticking out only one side of my face. Midnight has wet hair and looks excited as she answers, "Vendetta," "Come in, Miss. Welcome to your love nest." Midnight enters looking almost as uncomfortable as Baxter, but almost as excited as I am. A strange mix. I close the door and clear my throat as she walks over to the board and admires my work.
