I traced the curve of her waist to her ass better and added the finishing details to her legs and the ocean washing up to it. It was almost perfect. All it needed to look exactly like the original was color but I didn't color my drawings. I never had, I had never thought painting it would make it better, either. Not bright like a garden.” “Forests can be very dark.” I say, nodding my head. “But they can bright and beautiful too. There are green trees and grass, and butterflies, and birds.” Grace’s face lights up a bit. “Butterflies? Where?” I point to a blank spot on the page. “You could put them there. A bunch of them.”

She started scratching dark lines on a big piece of white paper. She drew a girl with a flat nose and lots of little brown dots on her cheeks. While she drew, a huge, happy smile came onto her face. She even used a bright yellow stone to draw big sun lines all around the girl's head, making her look like a bright star. At the very top of the paper, Amara wrote one word with her shaky hand: Mommy. "Why did you write that?" Jabari asked, his little eyebrows bunching up. "That does not look like the mean lady from the Okafor clan."

" Make her bigger, make her much stronger and give her a large enough bottle. Take her with you and get the water." Ella suggested. Willy slapped his hand on his forehead," I would love to but bugs are not allowed near the fountain." "Alright. Who is ?" Ella clapped her hands together. When there were only a few pages left, the tone of my drawings changed. The objects and animals that I drew were not alone this time. I no longer drew a stormy or dark night, but a scenery with sunlight and good weather. The flower was accompanied by a dancing butterfly. The bear cub has found another little bear. Since the sketchbook was old, the paper was slightly yellowed which affected the clarity of the drawing. I could barely see the outline.

Her voice still carried the faint mechanical timbre of her altered vision, yet her tone was achingly gentle, as if she had borrowed warmth from Savannah herself. After that, she didn’t waste another moment. She rushed back to the table. Taking up the discarded envelope, she pulled back the stamp. Underneath, Maddie could find the drawing. It was an eagle holding a snake in its talons. The sight sent a wave of relief through her. “Oh god, about time.” Maddie couldn't help but feel herself cry a little. These past days have proved the most difficult.
