"This conversation is not making sense." It wasn’t just her words that were confusing me. Usually, my Gift helps me better understand the people around me--what motivates them, what they feel, and their true intentions. But what I sensed from Madam Josefa added a second layer of confusion for me. The old lady was a swirl of conflicted emotions: hope and dread, excitement and anxiety, and even a bit of guilt. I couldn’t help but wonder what kind of future she had seen.

Usually, I just pretend I didn’t hear. But not everyone is like that. There are others who don’t hide their feelings at all. They glare at me openly, their faces twisted like I’m some stain on their perfect little pack. Some don’t say anything, just step aside with that look in their eyes, like they can’t believe someone like me is here. A few mutter things I can’t fully catch, but I know they’re not compliments. It’s a weird mix—half worship, half disgust. Both sides make me uncomfortable.

My heart remained guarded, unsure of what lay beyond this day. The conflicting emotions within me were like a tumultuous storm, each wave crashing against the shore of my consciousness. I wrestled with my fears, my desires, and the overwhelming sense of duty that had brought me to this point. Uncertainty loomed over me, casting a shadow on what was supposed to be a day of celebration.

Anger surged through me like a wildfire, consuming every inch of my being. I felt a mix of emotions swirling within me, frustration, and anger. It was as if the ground beneath me had crumbled, leaving me stranded in a sea of disappointment. I had invested so much time and energy into keeping them away from each other, hoping that Dante would realize his feelings for me. But now, it seemed like my efforts were all in vain.

He was looking at me as if I were the center of his universe, a stark contrast to the past week where I felt like a distant constellation in his sky. The rush of emotions hit me like a tidal wave. Excitement bubbled within me, a visceral reaction to finally seeing him after days of silence. Yet, woven into the fabric of my joy were threads of disappointment – the ache of being ignored, the unanswered messages that lingered in the digital void. The sadness of missing him mingled with the elation of having him before my eyes.

Chapter 27 – Jayler I just got home after a day filled with anxiety and gratitude and I am feeling a lot of different things all at once. Disappointment. Joy. Confusion. Exhaustion. I don’t know what else is there but I’m feeling everything all at once. This isn’t the first time that I’m feeling a burst of different emotions all clashing at once but this is the first time that I feel like I’m about to explode. It is quite overwhelming on the inside. It has been quite a long day and I needed some time to rest and get all of my thoughts together.

It was Jackson calling and he sighed heavily before picking up the call. "Hey," he said over the phone with a dry voice, which made Jackson worried. "You're good? I just saw the news of Maxwell's arrest" he said to Andrew who signed heavily, as he turned on the TV in his office and sighed, watching the news. "I don't know man, I'm confused and angry at myself, then I'm mad at maxwell and sad at the same time. I can't understand what I'm feeling right now, I don't know if I should believe him, when he said he didn't do it or not," he told Jackson scoffed.

Dark marks covered my neck and chest. I felt satisfied and ashamed all at once. How could someone experience two opposite feelings at the same time?

"I... It's..." I didn't know if I should be happy or pissed. I felt like I was stuck between a rock and a hard place—part of me was super stoked, but another part was totally freaked out. It was like my emotions were doing the cha cha slide, all mixed up and silly. I didn't know whether to jump in or hit pause, as my whole body buzzed with excitement and fear.
