He looked at me. "I'm afraid of losing myself, Nyra," he admitted, his voice low and raw, stripped of all its usual bravado. "This... this power, this immortality... it's all I've known for centuries. If I wake up and it's gone... who am I?" The vulnerability in his voice shattered my professional composure.
