The flames engulfed the monster and the undead screamed and plummeted toward the ground below. The second monster reached for the child, fingernails long and curved like the huge talons on a harpy eagle. The little girl screamed and screamed, the sound grating on Damonq as she threw herself to the opposite side of the blue dragon, away from the monster. Her hand slipped, and she shrieked again as she dropped into space. Damonq caught her in his arms. Instantly she began to fight.

Soon, the monsters stood, and they all walked toward Wilbur. The leading monster grabbed something in mid-air. A spear instantly appeared in its hand. Ace stood alone as the road curved into silence. Behind him, the woods stirred and then they came. Ten wolves. They were dark, fast, and soulless. Their eyes glowed with that same unnatural light he remembered from his days under control. Midnight Mystery wolves. They were noty just simple wolves but Engineered monsters. He didn’t hesitate. Ace shifted. His silver wolf burst forth in a flash of power and fury. His eyes gleamed violet under the rising moon. He met the first wolf mid-leap and slammed him into the dirt with a bone-breaking crunch.
