I took my place in the center of the stones, looked up at the moon, and lifted my hands. “Oh great Moon Goddess, I, Princess Brenna Sutton, humbly present myself to become your next Luna, if you so choose.”

Her fingers brushed a faded book that looked out of place — “The Lunar Doctrine.” Unlike the others, this one bore the symbol of the moon — silver, scratched and old. Curiosity tugged at her. She pulled it free and carried it to a desk by the window, where the moonlight filtered through heavy curtains like liquid glass. Page after page spoke of ancient beliefs — the moon as mother, the sun as destroyer, the balance between light and shadow.

The titles immediately caught my eye: The Myths of Moonsdale, The Wolves of the Moonlight, The Moon’s Chosen. “These are about your pack, aren’t they?” I asked, pulling one of the books from the shelf. “Some of them,” he said, stepping closer. “Most of it’s exaggerated or romanticized, but there’s a little truth in there too.” I flipped through the pages, mesmerized by the intricate illustrations of wolves under moonlight and detailed depictions of pack hierarchies. “Can I borrow one?” I asked. His lips curved into a small, genuine smile. “Take as many as you want.”

Kaelen dived into the smoke, grabbing Sera and pulling her back just as the peak of the mountain began to crumble. "Silas!" Sera cried, reaching out into the white light. But Silas was gone.
