The other teams seemed unimpressed by our look and gave my troupe looks of disdain and mockery. “That can’t possibly be what you’re wearing,” Cate scoffed from her spot on one of the lounges where she sat in a classic pink leotard and tutu. “Are you Black Moon performing a ballet or a circus act?” Others laughed around her and I felt my face heat up. “At least my outfit isn’t boring Cate, the lycan luna will probably fall asleep just looking at you,” I retorted, trying to maintain my composure in front of the other packs.

“We can take things one step at a time. Perhaps we could start by discussion the general outline of the event and any specific traditions or customs that are important to the Moonlit community?” There was a brief pause on the other end of the line before Adam responded, his tone more guarded now. “I’m afraid I can’t provide too many details at the moment. The nature of the celebration is… sensitive, and we need to ensure that everything is handled with the utmost care and respect.”

She showed me the luxurious rooms and beautiful gardens. Finally, Sia showed me to my room. I felt exhausted after walking through the grand mansion. My room was fully white, with accents of light blue, and the queen-sized bed, working desk, and drapes had crystal beads. I settled into the room, closed my eyes, and thought about Sia's story about my mother, Jia, and her struggles as a slave to the Blackmoon Pack alphas and how she eventually met my father. Luna Sia believed that the Blackmoon Pack had killed the pack members in war, but a plot by the Devamps cult, a hybrid of demons and vampires, caused their misery.

The night before the full moon always carried a hum beneath the air. Like the forest itself was holding its breath. Elena Blackthorne sat on the old roof above her room, legs tucked beneath her, the wind teasing strands of her hair as the pines whispered below. The moon wasn’t full yet — just shy of complete — but its pull was already threading through her blood, a low thrum that made her fingers twitch and her skin itch. Nyx, her wolf, stirred restlessly inside her.

He answered almost immediately. “It is not good news, Luna”, he said. “At least not for us”, he added before continuing. “That crest is the crest of the council of Elders”, he told me. “It seems that the Alpha of Blackmoon pack requested a pardon letter that cannot be rejected by any of the packs tho be sent to us”, he explained. “But why would they even permit him to do such a thing?” Lena asked. “Are they unaware of the history between our pack and Blackmoon?” She asked angrily. “What lies could he have told them to make them issue a pardon letter?” She asked.

I muttered to myself. Entering a crowded living room, I found it large enough to accommodate up to fifty people. It was a lively mixture of the Moonlight Pack and Boldclaw Pack, the only surviving packs in Latan City after the great war. Every full moon, there was a party that brought the two packs together. Though they had once been enemies after the great war, I had yet to discover why. But that was the least of my worries. I loved parties, but certainly not a wolf party.

Athan spoke, staring up at the black dot on the ceiling. "Don't say that Athan, we need to have some bit of hope, after all, the goddess knows why Skylar is the only white fur wolf after centuries" Natalie chipped in. Athan shrugged. "The party tonight, are you gonna be there?" Karenina grilled. Skylar slowly stared at her. "Is my mate going to be there?" "Unmated wolves from the six-packs are gonna be there since our pack is hosting the full moon today and you won't know if your mate is gonna be there if you sulk in here all day!" Karenina deadpanned and Skylar sighed before looking away.

I had no idea why, but it didn’t take long before I heard Katarina stifling her sobs beside me, with Luna Nadia’s arms around her. "Titan came out. He didn’t fail his friends," she said in a soft voice in between her sobs, and although I didn’t understand everything, I could feel relief and sadness all around me. And I reminded myself to ask Aeon later about it. After the noise from the Alphas subsided, one by one, all of them shifted, and the front of the forest line was now crowded with eight big, black wolves. All were utterly, breathtakingly beautiful. Their black fur was glistening under the moonlight, and I felt goosebumps rise from my skin at the powerful aura surging all around us.
