Sage. The morning sun is soft when it finds us, the kind of gentle warmth that makes everything feel temporarily forgivable. My mother is already seated on the patio when I step outside, her back straight in the chair, her face turned toward the light as if she is soaking it in after weeks of being denied it. She looks peaceful like this wrapped in a light cardigan, hair pulled back loosely, alive in a way that still feels miraculous to me. Theo squirms in my arms, making a small, impatient sound, and that’s when she turns and smiles.

She instructed her to go to the fridge and serve herself. Kala reluctantly stood up and made her way to the fridge, obediently following her mother's directive. After several hours of discussion, Felix and I prepared to leave, and a sense of warmth filled the air. Mary stood up from her seat, bidding us farewell with a loving embrace. "May the good Lord be with you," she said, her voice filled with genuine affection. She then turned to me, opening her arms for a hug. I welcomed her embrace, feeling a sense of acceptance and love from Felix's mother. It was a beautiful moment, one that solidified my place in their family.

The dead shouldn't be warm like this, and Accashia had always dreamed of feeling her warm embrace again. “Mama…” She cried in her mother’s arms. “You’re alive, and you're here.”

As we reached my mother's chambers, the air thickened with tension, the atmosphere charged with an unspoken intensity. I took a deep breath, my hand poised to knock on the door, when an overwhelming surge of emotions washed over me—concern, protectiveness, and an unyielding love for my mate. With a swift motion, I pushed open the door, revealing my mother seated at her desk, her face etched with a mixture of weariness and concern. I feel it happen in one instant through the bond. She turns completely still next to me. Her awareness is flooded with emotion, and it comes at her too fast, too all at once. Laughter of the tables below. Keep the kids warm with protective warmth. Comfort. Affection. Belonging. Not addressed towards her personally. To simply be around her openly. My mother takes a deep breath. I grab her hand under the table right away. “It's okay,” I mutter. I think for one horrible second, she's going to run away.

Within minutes, we’d parked in front of the mansion, and the door opened. My mother stood looming over me, with a pinched expression on her fair face. She looked down at my pathetically shivering, curled-up form and sighed. “’s not my fault this time,” I slurred, barely keeping my eyes open. If I thought pre-heat was bad, it had nothing to do with the actual thing. And I wasn’t fully in heat yet. “I’m well aware,” Mom replied, and bent down. “Come along now, let’s get you settled in your room.”

When she's completely out of our sight, Mother looks at me angrily. "How many times do I have to remind you of what you are to eat?" she whispers. I don't say anything. Mother rolls her eyes and watches Samantha color on the decorative piece of paper. She then picks up a crayon and assists her. As they are carried away together by their laughter and merriment, I look around nervously. It's eighty-six degrees outside, but for some reason there's little of a difference in here. The cardigan I'm wearing, the one Mother made me wear, adds another five degrees to my body heat; I'm sweating like a pig.

she greets with a trembling voice. "Hello ," My mother replies with an affectionate smile. " You can come closer. Don't be shy ," my mother stretches her hands for a hug . Rue walks over to her silently and reaches out for her . I don't know how my mother does it but Rue suddenly starts crying in her arms .Her tiny body convulses and her shoulders shake as she sobs loudly . I stand awkwardly watching the sad scene unfold in front of me . I don't know how to react so I just watch mum rubbing her back soothingly.

I feel much more power as it radiates through me, sending me happiness even in all these darkness. I love the smile that I see in my mother’s and father’s, and Williams’ eyes. It was so warm. And Melissa and Aiden, too. They all seem to be in peace and according to what they’ve rodk me one by one, they want that for me too. My mind is relaxed, in a garden of Eden. The cold air has soaked into my skin so much that my body receptors have gone almost numb. At the hideout, I quickly rush to a torch hung to the wall for some heat before I then proceed to find the triplets.
