Something in his tone reached me, familiar and safe, and my heartbeat slowed, just a little. And as it did, I felt that strange shifting inside me again. Then Kairos whispered,
“Look,” lifting my head, I did… to see my tail as it morphed again, returning to my legs.
“It’s okay. You’re okay,” Kairos whispered, helping me back to my feet. My legs wobbled, but I stood, looking around as I registered the sirens. Debris scattered like confetti, and Kairos stepped before me and cupped my face.
