SEVENTEEN There was no way to tell if the fog had dissipated throughout the day because, by the time Michael woke, the town beyond his window hazed again. Blue light from the halogen lamp in the carpark dueled with the neon pink MOTEL sign, dousing everything in slicks of color that refused to merge. Their glows seeped into the room, reflecting off his phone, burning in the dusty television screen. It itched to look at, all that arcade lighting. Dreams were easier.

C like she is talking to a six year old. I smiled a little and said “Yes please.” I had dinner at MCs’ house and went back home. Tonight is family movie night. We usually watch movie night with the Clowns, but seeing as how Noah is not in town and MC and her mom are in a bit complicated situation, we had to do movie nights just us, the Jonas. We usually watch a movie by vote but since we are short of watchers, we just picked randomly. And the movie of the night was Ghost Rider. To be honest, we have already watched this movie a couple of times but still.

The movie night happened on a Friday. Sofia chose the film: some mindless action-comedy from ten years ago. Explosions, bad one-liners, zero romance. She set up the living room herself blankets on the couch, popcorn in three bowls, lights dimmed but not too dark. She didn’t want it to feel intimate. She wanted it to feel safe.

“Oh?” “Yes. The darkness from beyond night itself wishes bad things, don’t you know?” Ralta smiled. “Then we shall crush them and their hairy pets. This time, we will be ready and will be coming for them. I do so detest being the southbound end of a northbound female dog.” ***

… On Saturday night, the four of them arrived at the cinema. Moses had rented out a private lounge for them. It could hold eight people in it. He knew that Bryce was a germaphobe. He'd already requested for the staff to sanitize the waiting room and keep it clean. This way, Bryce wouldn't pick at the little things and affect everyone's moods. Moses bought Nina and Holly some popcorn and drinks. Nina sat on the left, and Bryce sat on the right. They were watching an old movie, "The Ghost's Woman". It was both horror and romance tied into one.

And with that, he turned and walked out, the door shutting behind him with a thud. It was exhausting, but it was worth it to witness the end result of our efforts, and I couldn't be more pleased with everyone on the set. Jessica flirted with me for four days even after telling her I wasn't a lesbian, but she persisted. Because of how Jessica treated me, I saw Andrea's frequent murderous glare, which led me to believe that they were more than just friends, but also lovers. When we arrived in Manila, I was exhausted, from working hard for the previous four days to Andrea's constant hostility, so instead of riding my motorcycle home, I chose to hail a cab. When I got home and didn't see my mom or Dustin, I opted to rest my exhausted body on our couch in the living room.

We finished just in time as my brother and parents were coming down the stairs. “Good morning dear ones. I hope your hungry.” I said as they got to us. My brother said nothing and sat down, my father nodded and my mother was speechless. We sat around the table chatting and eating enjoying this calm before the inevitable storm that would come.
