“I’m fine. It’s not your fault,” I sniffed, but I knew I was not fine, and he must have sensed I was lying because he scoffed at my response.

“I’m truly fine, Father…”
“Xander,” he cut in sharply. “Call me Xander,” he corrected, and I inhaled sharply.
