The little life I had waited for day and night, the child I had welcomed with so much joy, was gone. "Baby… I'm sorry… I couldn't protect you…" My father sat beside me and gently patted my back, his voice thick with emotion. "Don't say that. You're so, so brave. The baby knows how much you loved him. He wouldn't blame you. He's an angel now. When you get better, maybe he'll come back and choose you as his mom again." My father wiped his eyes, then his voice turned cold. "That damn Eugene! How dare he do this to you! I won't let him get away with it."

When she’d be done talking, he’d open his eyes, smile at her, and tell her “Every angel has their assignment. Yours is to make great conquests. This is just another that you will succeed at.” Her father was a man of few words but hearing that each time always made her feel invincible.
