“Immortality is far from the blessing you humans and wolves imagine it to be.” I tilt my head, genuinely curious. “Why not? If I were immortal, I’d do everything—travel the world incessantly, learn every language, master every science, eat every kind of food imaginable—” “—and never feel the genuine warmth of the sun again,” he cuts in gently, his eyes distant. “Never feel natural heat. You would watch every single person you ever loved grow old, wither, and die while you stay exactly the same age, exactly the same person. Immortality is watching an endless series of goodbyes.”

“Yes, I did say that.” Sin intertwines our hands, and leads me closer to the horses. “Today, I will show the entire Kingdom to you.” “It was about damn time.” I speak, playfully, pulling a chuckle out of my King. “Okay, you are still feisty. I see.” “Oh, come on, you will die from boredom without my attitude.” “But I am immortal. I cannot die.” That makes the smile on my face wash off. Realization seeps into me. I nodded and asked, still feeling pretty shaken up, “I want to know how you are an immortal and could still have this reaction to the poison.” “Cynthia the term immortality is not about not ever dying anymore. It just means we are able to live much more longer than a mortal. I am also vulnerable but not as much as a mortal. Whoever did this, he must have used a stronger version, enough strong to make me unconscious.” I nodded before remembering how his beast was trying to come out, “Your beast was coming out.” At this his eyes honed on my injury which his paw gave me, he recognized it instantly, he groaned and a tear escaped his eye, “I did this to you?”

My hands kept shaking uncontrollably. “You are killing yourself,” Draven told him. I tried to pull away from the healers. "Stop this." “I’m immortal,” I protested feebly. "I cannot die from this." “No, but you can be miserable forever,” he retorted. "Immortality does not mean invulnerability. It simply means you can break without dying. Hurt without the mercy of death stopping it.” I knew he was right. With my body screaming for me to stop. But I could not. Not while I had known that wolves were dying. Not when I was able to save them.

I control them all to some degree. Kai and I were born as necromancers, an ability that used to have to be mastered and earned. Dad had to learn how to become a necromancer.
