Minutes passed, the hum of hospital activity filling the silence between us. Then, the doors to one of the hallways swung open, and there he was. Nathan strode toward us, still dressed in his blue surgical scrubs. His hair was slightly tousled, a few strands falling onto his forehead, and his eyes held that focused intensity I had come to admire. When his gaze landed on us, surprise flickered across his face, quickly replaced by sheer happiness. “Mom? Martha?” He sounded almost breathless as he approached. “What are you two doing here?”

"I think that Olivia should have seen through you much earlier. She must have been blind to stay with you for so many years!" The more she said, the more agitated Nathan became. In the end, he broke free of the hands holding on tightly to him and charged over to Cassidy. He dragged her off the hospital bed and began beating her while cursing at her. "If you hadn't been so slutty, I would never have fallen for it! How dare you criticize Liv? You're not worthy!" After seeing them together, the Wilkes could not let their daughter keep living with Nathan. They called the police and brought up divorce and compensation.

I flinched at her words. She enjoyed this. She wanted to see me suffer. "You took something from me," she continued, circling me like a vulture. "So I’m going to take everything from you." Tears burned my eyes, but I refused to let them fall. "You're doing a good job with that." I said, my voice breaking. "What else do you want?" Gina sighed dramatically, then leaned closer, her lips barely inches from my ear. "Oh, sweetie," she whispered, and then she smiled, a cruel, wicked smile that sent a shiver down my spine. "Nathan is in the hospital."

Seeing her eyes close shut, Nathan heaved a bitter sigh, brought out his phone, and dialed a number. "Ace, I want the two best specialists here right now. You have only eight minutes!" Nathan replied to the connected call and hung up the phone. His furious gaze landed upon Davie, whose skin color changed, and then scrolled to Gregory to see he was still in much pain. "How can I let you both have a peaceful death? Not on my watch, sweethearts! This is only phase one, and when I am done, you will understand why even the Mayor trembles in front of me!" She shifted in the bed, helping herself up with a lot of effort. She waited. Ten minutes passed. Then twenty. But there was no sign of Nathan. A soft knock came, and a nurse entered, carrying fresh gauze and antiseptic. Elena tried to sound casual, but her voice betrayed her worry. “Excuse me... have you seen Nathan? Nathan Cain? He was with me last night.” The nurse paused. Her expression grew slightly awkward. “Um... Nathan left the hospital yesterday evening. He hasn’t come back since.” The words hit like a slap.

She questioned in her old voice as she walked towards the door. Hearing no response, she frowned, but still walked to her old door, then opened it. “Who is—” Her eyes widened as she looked at the person standing by her door. “Hello, Granny.” Nathan greeted her. He looked at the old woman who looked at him in shock with confusion. He really couldn't understand what was wrong. After he left the hospital, he had asked his men to search around every hospital closed by for Evans only to find out he hadn't gone to the hospital.

While being introduced to the current general, General Douglas Whitaker, Norman said, “This is Serena, Nathan’s—” He was confused about how to introduce Serena. Norman ended up turning to Nathaniel. “When are you going to get married?” The current general laughed at Norman’s words. He said to Nathaniel, “So, Nathan, where does your relationship stand?” Their table was composed mostly of Serena's family, plus the kids and Bianca. Noelle was also there. Next to them were the Hartleys. Nathaniel cleared his throat and smiled at the current general. “General Whitaker.”

Nathan said half-heartedly. This was not the first time Chelsea had heard such a lie from Nathan. The last time he had been to the hospital was a year ago. "I'll just call my driver and ask him to take me to the hospital," "I think you should wait for him," "Who? Nathan? I don't think I should," I used my left hand to bring my phone out of my bag and dialed the driver's number. He wouldn't pick up and I had to dial again.
