Maris was in a deep slumber on her average sized bed as the sun smiled on planet Earth. Her face was covered in sweat and her sheets were rumpled. She struggled on the bed like she was fighting. Her head moved from left to right, hinting at a bad dream. Maris stood in the middle of some naked men with the body of half a human and half a wolf beside her. She was confused. Was she still in a nightmare? Hadn't she been saved by some blue eyed god?

Isaac explained that when I was ready to go back it would be activated again. He also explained that the world we were in was called the Nightfall Nexus and it was a mystical world where supernatural beings and creatures existed. He said that the world was kept away from the human world to keep them safe and to maintain the balance and warned that I wasn’t allowed to tell anyone else about the place.

"But the threat is not over." "What do you mean?" Elara asked. "The Shadow Wolves are just the beginning," the Moon Goddess said. "The Nightmare is trying to return." Elara's heart raced. "How?" "The Nightmare is feeding on the fear and pain of the supernatural beings," the Moon Goddess said. "It is growing stronger, and it will soon be able to break free from its prison." Elara woke up, her heart racing. She looked at Damon, who was sleeping peacefully beside her. She knew that the Moon Goddess was right—the Nightmare was trying to return.

He mumbled a little before turning on his side but did not awaken. She shook her head, How can you be Dusk and Duskin? How can you pretend to be such a dark child when you are so kindhearted? Although she desired the answer to the question, she figured that she would never obtain the answer. Nightide remained secretive about their past. Hae Mina shook her head as she ventured up the staircase then fell on her bed in a heap. Her brain was too exhausted to push her back into her dreaded nightmares and so she slept heavily and deeply.

Anahita Waterwolf POV We waterwolves have resettled on the banks of the Dream River that runs through the place once known as the Barren. Though to use the word 'barren' in relation to this magnificent place feels ridiculous. Many mornings I sit on the balcony of the packhouse, before the pack stirs, gazing out at the churning, roiling, foaming waves of the river, its banks densely packed with rich, dark mud. The colours of the river at dawn--blue, mauve, purple, indigo, green--remind me of the lifestone and that night when the poison was driven out. The lifestone disappeared, it's work done. It was Nightmarefest Night. Nightmarefest is held on the last night of the third month of summer and runs until dawn on the first day of fall. Although to call it a celebration would be to dignify it.
