Nikolai was already there.
My stomach tightened before I could stop it. He stood near the long table with Viktor beside him, black as always. His face gave nothing away, but his eyes found me the moment I entered. For one second we held each other’s gaze and the memory of last night flashed between us… his hand at the back of my neck, his mouth on mine, the abrupt cold when he walked away.
I lifted my chin and he looked away first.
