We couldn’t afford to ignore it. We left the base in the early morning, the sky still a pale blue. The streets were eerily silent, the kind of silence that you only get when everything around you is on the brink of destruction. Our vehicle rumbled along the cracked, deserted roads, passing abandoned buildings, wrecked cars, and the occasional flicker of movement that sent a chill down my spine. The city that was once full of life now lay in ruins, the air heavy with the smell of decay. Every corner seemed to whisper of death.

He jumped back in the car and headed in. Eve was super excited to see Adam. She was no longer running from what she knew to be real. She was determined to play this thing out. Heath sat at his desk thoughtfully. He rotated his chair to face the wall behind him. Pushing the red button on the remote control in his left hand, he turned on the fifty- two inch, flat screen monitor, which hung on the wall behind him. It quickly went through it's voice guided starting options. He chose the source button on the thin black remote. "Source selection Open HDMI1-MHL," echoed through the large open space. "Source selection close HDMI1-MHL," the electronic voice announced. Suddenly, Faidh's sleeping image appeared on the screen. The blank expression on Heath's face quickly changed to tenderness. I carefully placed Eve within the reed piles and whispered, “Eve, wait here for me. I’ll go bring the boat over.” Eve nodded obediently. With the cart, it wasn’t long before I pulled the boat into the marsh. I helped Eve onto it, and then, as quietly as I could, I began rowing. Since it was just me, the boat moved slowly, but at least we were heading forward. Soon, we would be out of this terrible place. Eve’s eyes began to sparkle with hope for freedom. However, just then, the boat suddenly hit resistance and wouldn’t move any further.

EVE'S POV:- They kicked me out of the Master's castle. They said I am the death. That is why I do not deserve to be inside of that castle. I was wearing nothing but a thin lacy nighty that reached my upper thigh. It was barely covering my bottom. The chilly air and falling snow made me think of my end. I was shivering with both the icy cold weather and the horrific darkness outside. I did not know why but I was always afraid of the dark. I even hated black color.
