Nodding, I hurry back to my room to prepare. ___________ It takes an entire day's drive to arrive at our destination, but soon, the end to the tarred streets and the beginning of the dirt road is in sight, the first hint at the vast difference in financial standing between Everdale and Red Ember. Tracker is at the wheel and we leave Everdale territory through the main roads which I did not dare do on my previous escape attempt, knowing it would have been certain death.

Eve quickly embraced her friend feeling bad for her actions. “There, there love, how about you and I go and kick Maverick’s ass at home?” Eve suggested. Sandra’s eyes lit up. “Let’s go get him,” Sandra said and Eve still hugging her walked out of the café. Eve’s mind was racing else, she was going to pit Alpha Ares against Maverick and see how he escapes this time Because one thing she knew for sure was that nobody can escape Alpha Ares’s wrath and Maverick was no exception.

James continued to ask, “What path exactly is the Halcyon Road?” Landry explained, “The Dark World is boundless. According to the records, no living beings or powerhouses can traverse the Dark World or leave it. The Halcyon Road is a spatial passage within the Dark World that shortens the journey for someone to reach the deepest part of the Dark World.” “Ah, I see.” James began to grasp the situation. Comprehending it was easy, akin to someone wanting to travel to a distant place. Yet, adhering to conventional methods might take them their entire life to get there. Now, a shortcut had emerged, a passage that swiftly propelled them to their destination in remarkably little time.

The black SUV convoy glided through the wrought-iron gates of a secluded estate on the outskirts of the city, tires crunching softly over gravel. Tall, manicured hedges lined the private road, shielding the property from any eyes that might otherwise have wandered too close. Eve — Viper, some buried part of her mind kept insisting on calling herself now — sat in the back seat, posture straight and composed, the apartment keys safely out of her hands and into Elena and Jake's. The emotional weight of the reunion still sat heavy in her chest, a quiet ache tangled up with relief.

“We could not get in. When Cooper closed the door, it was locked.” I expected Eve to rant, but she didn’t. Her hands were busy again, taking another pouch labeled with KEYS. She took a bunch of keys, then she stood up, leaving the bag on the ground. Realizing what she was about to do, I grabbed her arm before she could advance toward the freaky mansion. “Where are you going?” I asked, almost whispering to her. “Inside?” She answered, her eyebrows raised. She turned to her kids. “You stay here. I have to check what exploded inside.”

When the party is in full swing, I will sneak away and leave this place forever. I smile as the thought takes over; being a rogue means freedom and that fills me with hope. Headlights flash above me, taking me out of my thoughts and I duck quickly, peering back out once they have passed. I watch as four black SUV cars pull into the driveway, stopping where my father waits. The driver gets out and runs to open the back passenger door. A dark figure steps out. His frame is tall and muscular, but it’s too dark to see his face.

The bustling city is filled with smells and sounds that I had forgotten during the treacherous journey. The thousands of colours that paint my diverse kingdom and the equally diverse people who bring it to life and give it meaning. The ones who give me meaning. There are five main roads that point in the direction of each of our neighboring countries, a sign of peace amongst us, but the Pasiphaen route had been empty since the day of the massacre.

Edenwood’s silence was one of them. Spiro eventually lifted one hand and pointed down a narrower road half-hidden by broken branches. “Turn there,” Spiro instructed. Ronan obeyed.
