I walked towards a lounge leather sofa in the room to read the note. The note could only be read by a Witch and no other species. Only the person intended to receive the letter could read its content. After whispering a spell to open the seal, I then read the content. “Oh my God! Teddy!” It was a note asking me to meet someone who was said to have Teddy in custody. What was happening? Did Nikolai know about this? Teddy was not at home all this while? The note had a piece of paper attached to it. A map. I was asked to follow it.

Text you the location later. I swallowed. There goes my plans of watching The Notebook.

No official stamp, no foundation logo, and personal notes, of course. Men like him always keep their own record of the damage. I reach for the top notebook first. He puts one hand over it. “Read carefully,” he says. “You may not like what memory looks like when someone writes it down without kindness.” Aurora steps in before I can. “Move your hand.” He does. Good. I open the first notebook. The first page is enough to make my skin crawl. Subject B – intake retention notes. Not Nadia, not a child, Subject B. I keep reading anyway.

The first light of day felt wrong. Not because the blackout had damaged the city, it hadn’t, not seriously. Because when she woke, there was a note waiting on her desk. Not an email. Not a system alert. A physical note. Handwritten. She froze. The Note “I watched the restart. You handled fear well. But you didn’t make the choice alone. Next time, you will.” No signature. No traceable ink. She crumpled it slightly in her fist.

“Did you, um, happen to see anyone sitting at that table by the window? My usual spot?” Ethan pauses, thinking. Then shakes his head. “Not that I noticed. We’ve been a little busy. Why? Something wrong?” I hesitate, glancing at the note again. The handwriting is neat but not familiar. “No, nothing’s wrong,” I say, forcing a smile. “Just curious.” He nods and goes back to his work. I sigh, turning back toward my table. I drop into my seat, staring at the note again. Romeo112. A fan. My first real-life fan.

I gave her a small smile, letting her know I was there for her if she needed me. “I’m sorry, Nathaniel. I know I’m not good company right now. I was just rereading Tim’s letter. It’s painful to know he’s gone, and the only thing he really thought of was me living out the rest of my days. The last thing he will ever say to me is for me to live my life and to live it with another man.”

She sighed and briefly told Mary what she had encountered that day, from accidentally having gone into arousal to having had a temporary mark from an alpha. Mary was surprised to hear that, she stammered speechless. She tried to stabilize her emotions, then asked again, "The one who marked you is Stella's CEO, Marcus Hofsess, right?" Calantha nodded, "He just temporarily marked." Confused, she asked Marry, “According to what I've learned, beta can't sense pheromones, right? Why did you and the people I met on the road stayed away from me?”

Because fate is petty. I walk over slowly, like it might bite me. Peel the note from beneath the sleeve. Heavy paper. Embossed. Of course it is. “Consider this a better bribe. Still not giving up. – N.” I should laugh. I should crumple it into a tight little ball and slam dunk it into the trash with dramatic flair. Instead, I read it again. Still not giving up. God, he’s annoying. How the hell does he even know my coffee order?
