In appearance, they are all thought to be extremely beautiful, and do not violate the balance of nature. As such they often take on highly important roles in various legends and epics: they may be serving demigods, or falling in love with those mythical heroes themselves. There are many different kinds of nymphs: The Naiads live in fresh-water, Dryads range over trees, whilst Oreads come from the mountains. They make life interesting and beautiful so long as they do not arbitrarily contravene nature's laws.

Nymphs in Greek mythology are these fascinating, lesser-known deities that feel like the hidden gems of ancient storytelling.
