JOSH POV Now, I have my first question. “Omegas?” I ask. Maddie smiles at me again. She begins to climb the stairs as she answers me, “Omega is a ranking within wolf shifter packs. It is the lowest rank of wolves. Most packs have an abundance of lower ranking wolves, omegas being the most prolific. They tend to be the worker bees. Landscapers, housekeepers, child care givers, teachers, nurses, and doctors; professions like that who are all about care and repetition, emotional empathy, encouragement and care. They have huge hearts, and it is in theirs’s and their wolves’ natures to be attentive and nurturing to the other pack members.

The gray-eyed man turned his attention toward me now. His gaze swept over me carefully, from my worn clothes to the bruises still fading along my arm. His expression darkened. “She’s an omega,” he said. “Yes.” “And wolfless.” Kael didn’t answer that part. The silence stretched. The man studied him carefully before speaking again. “Alpha… this doesn’t make sense.” Kael’s silver eyes flickered briefly toward me before returning to his Beta. “She crossed into our territory tonight,” he said. “By accident?” “No.”

It is a picture of a bleeding wolf standing before a divine being. The moon goddess. “Hey, take a look at this,” I say, showing Sarah the picture. She perks up and takes the time to analyze the picture. “I told you we shouldn’t have given up,” she laughs, and I roll my eyes. “Yeah, I suppose you are right. but what could it mean?” I ask her, flipping through the pages. There isn’t any writing explaining what the picture means. "Well, judging from the color of the wolf’s blood, I would say that is an omega,” Sarah says, and I nod in agreement.

Her wolf puts his pair. “Wanjithi,” my aunt said almost breathlessly. What? - What? - that's all I could get out. The rest of them had to convey my shocked face. And then Mira gave way to her aunt, allowing her to tell me, apparently, their very touching wolf story about how some werewolves were given God's blessing to find uangity. Which, as I was nevertheless explained, meant "one life for two." Sounds like a threat to me. But for them it has a romantic meaning. In fact, this is a couple for a wolf - one and forever, suitable for him in everything.

Omega wolves are the weakest of the wolf species, whose strength is compared to that of a human. The only difference is their super-hearing abilities, sense of smell and a few other things. I don't know why even though I don't like her, but I feel sad every time I remember Charmaine. Rumor has it that Edward Adler's 20-year-old youngest daughter was born an Omega. Alex explained to me that Omega is a werewolf who can't change himself into his wolf form, because that's why Omega is usually considered weaker than normal werewolves.
