Jason’s POV Vanessa was clearly defending William. He even glanced at her with some relief in his face. My eye twitched but I stayed otherwise still. “That’s not necessary,” I said flatly. Vanessa nodded. “We should also discuss the trade routes. William’s first suggestion was through an industrial part of town. These are not roads typically traversed by regular commuters. In fact, the most recent surveys show that since the industries here are mostly automated, hardly anyone actually travels on these roads at all. No one should be affected by these routes.”

"If you're here, then is anyone watching out for my family?" "Yes, darlin, You know very well that I wouldn't leave them unprotected," he said softly. I nodded. "Have you had dinner, Nova?" "No, I was going to order something." "My guy Decker is here with me tonight. He's a few doors down, and he'll be driving your car home tomorrow. So we'll all grab something. We are in Memphis, so we might as well have some Memphis barbeque." "Driving my car home?" I squeaked.

I have to talk to dad regarding the car, allowance like I need it for something. Looking around the town, Rowena is really boring. On the route I am going I can see some bakeries, coffeehouses, restaurants, people running somewhere, I wonder if this town has an elite area, and where it is. I am standing in front of Rowena Highschool, my only goal today is not to kill anyone and just to stay as invisible as I can, see how things work, and step aside. I just want to finish this and see what the hell I am going to do with my life later. Entering the school I asked the guard where the principal's office was and started walking that way. The school does not look that bad, it looks poor but I gues

I'm begging you to be careful and be on your guard. 'I'm not ready to die just yet, Anthony. I'm just on a sight seeing tour,' I sent back to him. The service road was not well known, but it was secluded. It curved in a large S down the side of a mountain. It was intended to monitor the satellite dish at the top of a small hill. Once the road straightened out it ran for miles eventually dumping into route 301. The piece of road I was interested in bordered the interstate. The interstate wasn't busy at night and it would be easy enough to drive through the trees and merge.

"Mr. Reed, we have found the license plate you are looking for. It appeared on West Stream Road, and I am sending someone to block the road as we speak." "Thank you, Ronald!" After hanging up the phone, Jordan immediately sped up and went straight to West Stream Road. He was driving a limited-edition luxurious car that had excellent performance. In an instant, it sped up and rushed out with a loud screeching noise. In less than half an hour, Jordan reached West Stream Road. As the suspect appeared in West Stream Road, the police nearby had already come and blocked the road.

"I know. I got it." The streets got quieter the farther we drove. Fewer cars and fewer people. The kind of quiet that made your skin crawl because you knew you were going somewhere you weren't supposed to be. When we finally turned onto Stamford road, my stomach dropped. The road was exactly as I remembered it. Long, narrow, lined with buildings that looked like they'd been forgotten years ago. Some had broken windows. Others had doors hanging off their hinges. "This is it," Josh said quietly, slowing the car.

Rough, scorching. "Get in, I'll give you a ride back." It was a modified Ford Raptor, its chassis ridiculously high, the whole vehicle a matte black, looking like an armored beast straight off a battlefield. The engine roared as we sped down Route 66. The wind was strong, carrying red dust. Jasper steered with one hand, the other holding a half-smoked cigar, casually resting on the open window. "See that dry river valley over there?" He pointed with his cigar to the red rock walls outside the window.

He stood and wandered away. Donnie leaned forward, and Johnny huddled closer. “I think I have a possible ID on a suspicious vehicle.” Johnny shifted to focus on the screen as Donnie continued. “I’ve run images from ATM cameras, a compound camera and a traffic cam on the route. This road leads to the A104 freeway. A black van with tinted windows flashed amongst traffic on three different occasions. If I’ve calculated correctly, it’s going way too fast. A secondary vehicle following close behind is also tinted.”

I wondered if Matthew was getting updates from Colin. I drove as far as the pack house and was met by one of the pack, someone I didn’t recognize, who jogged up to the car and bent down to the window. “Keep going along that little road north,” he said without preamble. “They’re waiting for you up there.” He stepped back, and I hit the gas and followed his directions. The ‘road’ was generously named, even with the ‘little’ qualifier, and the Honda jolted and jounced over more potholes than I could count. Tree branches scraped the sides of the car.

Three years after my release from prison, I ran into my ex-wife in the presidential suite of the most exclusive hotel in Bayshore. It had been years since I last saw her. She was draped in a silk robe, radiating wealth. When she recognized me, something unreadable passed through Cecily Monroe's eyes. "On the day you got out, why didn't you wait for me to come pick you up?" I said nothing and handed over the takeout. Her gaze dropped to the scar on my wrist, and her breath caught. "I went too far with that. But you've always been tougher than Adrian. You can always get back on your feet." She was talking about what happened six years ago, when Adrian Burke was involved in a catastrophic
