Clenching his fist, he replied, “Why are you suddenly feeling concerned about me? Why do you bloody care?!!” Silence hung heavily in the air, and Antonio could feel his chest constrict at Marco’s intense stare. He remained speechless as he tried to find the right words. “You told your men to beat me up and now you have the audacity to show concern after sighting my scars?!!!!” Marco blurted, his voice cracking at the edges. Antonio balled his fist and approached him, his looming presence trapping him in a corner. Gritting his teeth, he grasped Marco’s neck and growled, “Do not even think I have the slightest concern for you! If I choose to kill you at a spot, I won't hesitate to do it.”

“This is Phillip. My mate.” The pride and joy in her voice made my heart warm. For a moment, all the noise around us faded, leaving only her and the man who already looked at her like she was everything that he wanted. That was a good sign. Phillip inclined his head to us, his voice low and steady, resonant like rolling thunder. “Phillip of the Moonstone pack. Warrior under Alpha Maxwell.”

"Honey!" After realizing that Roxanne was dead, Marco's eyes were filled with a menacing and bloodshot rage. He glanced up and unleashed a guttural scream. In a flash, he ascended into the air and bellowed, "Kill him! Attack him all at once!"

My stomach sank. “Marco, please.” Before I could respond, Joey pushed him aside. “She’s not your concern. Move out of the way.” Marco planted his feet firmly. “Luca needs information. He wants a living witness. He wants me to breathe.” Tony intervened. “Then start walking. He won’t get anything if this building collapses on you.” Marco remained still. Not out of nobility or a desire to die for me, but because Marco Moretti had finished fleeing from the monster that created him. “He wants me dead,” Marco said. “If we leave, he follows. If I stay, I end it.”

The breath felt like surrender and claim both. “Yes.” Marco joined them, wiping rain from his brow with the back of his hand. “He had a Maretti mark,” he said. “Yeah,” she said.
