I felt so sorry for him that I was moved to tears but I quickly put my emotions under control. "Please, don't be sad. I believe everything will be fine in no time," I said with a gentle tone. "How will things ever be fine considering how poor we are? I don't think it will ever be fine in my family cos there is no hope for a good future," he said with teary eyes. "Oh, come off it, George! Stop sounding like a pessimist. You have to be optimistic no matter how bad a situation is. Please, cheer up, I don't like to see men crying," I said as I tried to console him.

I asked, my voice trembling. Julien smiled gently. “We can’t predict the future, Aisha. But we can choose to move forward with confidence. Every step we take is part of the journey.” I pondered for a moment. His words seemed to erase the doubts clouding my mind. “You always see the positive side of everything, don’t you?” I replied, joking a little. “Just try,” he said, a wide smile on his face. “Sometimes, we need optimism to face uncertainty.”

“Stop with the pessimistic attitude, Tyson. Maybe she wants to accept us.” “Uh huh, sure Jan.” I say with heavy sarcasm as I roll my eyes at him. “I’ll just stick to my pessimism, and you can continue to be the amazing optimist, right?! Mr. Depression? I don’t have a whole lot of patience for you right now. So unless you’re gonna pipe in with something constructive, you can just go right back to your pit of despair to sulk, okay?”

Warm tears soaked into my shirt, matching my own that slid freely down my cheeks. Our smiles were real, but strained at the edges, stretched thin by everything we'd gone through. And still, they remained. There was hope, flickering, fragile, yet fiercely clinging to life. It wasn’t the kind of hope you could rely on, not with someone like Fabri standing in our way.
