The One He Chose
They moved next to the journal and pen.
Henry lifted the leather-bound book. The initials carved on the front gleamed under the lamp, and the pen, resting across its cover, seemed to hum with promise.
“This was Adrian’s,” Henry said, almost to himself.
Evelyn nodded. She had known even before he unwrapped it. Adrian’s gifts always carried thought, not grandeur.
Henry opened the journal, flipping through blank pages that smelled of ink. Each one was a doorway, waiting for him to step through.
“It’s strange,” Henry admitted. “The others gave me things that scream of their world—status, power. But Adrian…” He trailed off, his throat tightening.
