Without another word, she stormed out of David’s room, her steps heavy with exhaustion and anger.
The elevator, as if conspiring against her, refused to work. Frustration bubbled over, and she opted for the stairs.
"Animals," she muttered under her breath, her frustration spiraling into rage.
Suddenly, the world shifted beneath her feet. Avery felt a forceful push, and before she could react, she was tumbling down the stairs, her body colliding painfully with each step. Agony shot through her as she hit the ground with a final, bone-jarring thud. She gasped, the breath knocked out of her, pain throbbing in every part of her body.
