“What?” Lila asked. He held up the metal fastener running through the papers. “There are gaps.” Vanessa leaned closer. “What do you mean?” “See these marks?” He pointed to tiny tears near the punched holes. “Someone removed pages.” Silence. Vanessa immediately checked the file index. Her eyes widened. “He’s right.” “There should be forty-three pages.” She counted the papers. “Thirty-eight.” Five pages were missing. Lila’s pulse quickened. “What kind of pages?”

Satisfied, I was about to close it when something caught my attention. The page numbers. I frowned. Page forty-three... Followed by... Forty-six. I turned back. Then forward again. Forty-three. Forty-six. The pages hadn't fallen out. They had been cut out. Cleanly. Almost professionally. I ran my fingertips lightly along the inner binding. There was no mistaking it. Several sheets had once been there. Now... They weren't. I sat back slowly. Perhaps... It had simply been damaged. Books this old were bound to lose pages eventually.

He said before handing it over. The book was only a little larger than my palm, and the pages were so few that I frowned. Can this even be considered a book? Nevertheless, I flipped to the first page, only to see a blank space. But on the second page, I paused. It was a sketch of a black mark, very similar to the one on Lena's shoulder. There were no words written under the mark, so I flipped to the next page quickly. The next thing I saw was the mark staying in, and I furrowed my brows. On the next page, it was the same thing, and on the last page, what I saw was an enormous black wolf, having a hint of brown and white to its fur.

Every page in that book carries the day's mess on it. That week has none. I turned back one sheet. Then forward two. The letters are the wrong shape. Not by much. Somebody has taken care over it, and somebody has had the book in front of them while they did it — the loops rounder, the pen pressed harder, and on the sheets either side of it that is not how the numbers get made. Nobody cut a page out of my book. Somebody copied a week out, wrote it again, and put their version back in.

She promises, pointing to an area where there are a few chairs around a table. I nodded, still a little uneasy but don't word it out. I better start searching for what I came here for and quickly. As Lily skimmed her way through the endless books, I decided to stay where I am and skim the big book she handed to me. Its olive green cover was very old and showed that it had been here for ages. There was no indication of what the book held in its knowledge apart from the golden art of a wolf sketched into it. I opened the book, the dusty yellow pages greeting me. I coughed. It seems no one had bothered to dust it off. It must've been sitting here for God knows how long.

" Read the book, you haven't right?" I nodded and flipped the book open. The following pages after the dedication and first page were empty. After that, the next heading read Content with a series of smaller sentences piling up in a straight line. There were no lines on the yellowed pages, but the sentences were straight. The handwriting on its own, not so much. A few of the titles had disappeared so a the whole page didn't make a lot of sense.

I explained while keeping the antique tome in his table. "It's a book about mates but this is the first volume of it's collection, and it doesn't have provided any potential information so far." Alpha Brian leaned back in his chair, his eyes scanning my face and to the book as he listened intently. "Hmm, I see. This book is part of a collection, you say?" I nodded, my fingers pointing at the back page, showing where it shows its collection. "Yes, Alpha. There are five more volumes to it, but the first one seemed more like an introduction. I couldn't find anything useful in it."

There is nothing inside” she reacted when she saw the content of the book. “It’s just a sample handbound of my story. Besides, where are calculating how we can put all of it in just one book. Look at it, it’s thick because it has 500+ pages” I explained to her. “So don’t expect that it has contents now because it’s just a sample” I added.
