"Actually, he is." A horn sounded, breaking the night. The hunt had begun. I turned and ran into the dark, my wolf surfacing. The forest lost definition as I ran, every instinct urging me to go faster. But I wasn’t going to just run.

"Smile, that's the only thing you're to do. No talking with anyone, no eye contact, and no wandering from my side. You know what can happen if you choose to go against this right?" I crimped my lips defiantly and looked away. Chase sprinted to us from the array of warriors. He was the Gamma of the pack and it was his duty to train the warriors. His hair was golden in the sun and beads of perspiration trickled down his bulging muscles as he came to a halt before us. "The border patrol team sees nothing alarming for now." That was what he said when he got to Enid. Enid seems to process what Chase just said silently, his gaze on his training defenders.

I call out to the waiting wolves. Chase goes down quickly. He is overly confident but lacks any actual skill. He uses power and puts no thought into his attacks. "2 out of 10, Chase. Give me 300 pushups. We are off to a terrible start," I growl as I stare my fellow pack members down.

Once outside the church, Roxy and Skin hurried down the road. They were headed to the woods. Roxy was trying to follow the scent as she could not see or hear the werepanther. Moments later, Skin saw her run off towards a thicket of trees. He shot after her but by the time he reached the thicket, he had already lost her. He sighed thinking about the newbie’s obsession with going solo on the mission.

I was just smiling the whole time. "What are the things you like doing?" I asked. He was thinking for a second and I just let him be. "I always do hiking every year. I might go next month. Why?" He asked and I just smiled. "So, you'll let me come with you, right?" I asked while showing him my puppy eyes. "No." He said and I just pouted my lips. "You easily get sick. You can't do such things." He said and it made me even sadder. I wanna go hiking, I wanna experience it. I had no chance to do so.

All those thoughts had came back in his head. He gave a sigh, trying to push what Malcom said to the back of his head. He always knew that there was more than friendship between the two, and had always wanted to ask Kristoff, but doubted he would have told him anything. The security camera system made a pinging sound, when Chance glance at his notification. He saw a video of Malcom waving a baseball bat, threatening to break his car windows. He took a swing at the car, but Chance made no move because it wasn't his car.

‘Mom? My paws are anchored to the ground, my head spinning in disbelief. I couldn’t have heard that correctly… could I? Chase is still frozen, staring, but the other wolf doesn’t have the same reaction. She bares her teeth, launching toward him. Panic grips me as I watch her go in for the kill, going straight for his jugular. I’m too far away- I’ll never make it in time. ‘Chase!’ I screech his name through the mind-link in a futile effort to make him move. It doesn’t work; he’s still frozen, but someone else jumps in.

So I think I will disturb the entry just a little, nothing that is too noticeable unless they are looking and allow one of the other patrols to find them. I head back to the barracks, climb in through my window, put my backpack into my small cupboard and then go and rejoin the search party I was teamed up with, luckily we had separated to do the search a bit quicker so my absence wasn't noticed. Just as I re-join my team, we all stop as we hear a really loud, sad and pain-filled howl echo throughout the woods, it is then followed by three more very loud howls in response and joined to the first one. Maverick is obviously dead, the poor sucker. He was a really good partner in both our patrols

And just like that, I know I'm at risk of falling for her all over again. Fuck. "That you are, my boy. How about we watch some TV together, buddy?" I ask, pressing a kiss to the side of his head when he agrees with a very exuberant nod. Hand in hand we walk to the living room and settle onto the couch. "So what's your favorite show, bud? Who is your favorite character?" His eyes light up, and he yells "Paw Patrol! I want to be just like Chase the police pup! He's a police and he makes sure everyone stays safe," he proclaims proudly.

Who goes to a panther's lair to hunt him? I do. And for Jasper Grant, a hot, tasty girl blundering into his lair? That suits him perfectly. It is a shame that such a fine specimen of a man will go to waste. But he must pay with his life. All the Grants will pay for their sins. I, Michela Cruz, will be their reckoning.
